Challenge Badges

Plastic Free Planet Challenge Badges

Nelson Mandela once said “Education it the most powerful weapon for changing the world” and true to that mantra, we want to change the world through education.

As part of a this journey the Plastic Free Planet badge has been created as a tool to educate our future generations about the impact we are having on our planet.

The first badge is aimed at Girlguiding groups and has been produced by Hersham District Girlguiding.  The badge has been approved by Girlguiding branding.

About the Challenge

Accompanying the badge is a challenge pack containing ideas on how to complete the challenge.  The challenge is split into three sections:

  1. Understanding Plastic
  2. Protecting the Environment
  3. Making a change

The challenge has been designed so it is accessible to all age groups; Rainbows (5-7), Brownies (7-10), Guides (10-14) and The Senior Section (14 – 25).

About the badge design

When you embark on this challenge you learn a lot about plastic, and the different types of plastic we commonly use.  Each plastic has a number classification from 1 to 7 surrounded by a triangle of arrows.  This is not an indication of whether it is recyclable, it is just an identification mark.  The Plastic Free Challenge badge bares such a mark with a zero in the center – this represents – no plastic, zero plastic.  It is something we would like to see more often on packaging to signify that there is no plastic.

An talking of no-plastic – the badge is 100% cotton

and…. 10p from every badge will go to the Surfers Against Sewage.

Future badges

With the successful launch of the Girlguiding badge, we are now looking to produce an unbranded version for schools and youth groups and even possibly a branded Scout badge.  If you are interested in these options, please get in touch.

Ordering Challenge Badges

Badges can be purchased by cheque (payable to Girlguiding Hersham) using the order form at the back of the pack or by downloading it here.

We can also accept BACS payments, account details are in the challenge pack or can be found on the order form.  If using BACS please remember to also email your order to details with reference to your payment.

In additional to the challenge badges sold for Hersham District Girlguiding, I also have personally created a ‘I say no to Plastic’ pin badge which is available through my Etsy store.
